BSA A65 engine strip and rebuild 2 Discussing the stripped engine and crank.
Gearbox aside, the engine is stripped down to the crank now and it is time to order some parts and start looking at some aspects of this engine, to see what if anything might need any attention.

BSA A65 engine strip and rebuild - yes, another one!
Просмотров 1 тыс.18 часов назад
Here I am, at the early stages of stripping another BSA A65 engine. This one has already been enlarged to 750 cc and has the SRM crankshaft timing side conversion, but the owner wants some new, upgrade conrods fitted and anything else which may crop up attended to.

Royal Enfield Bullet 500 'Asbo' 51 engine top end tuning work discussed.
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.4 часа назад
At first, this wasn't going to be Asbo 51, but the lightened and rebalanced crank, overbored and shortened ally barrel, high compression piston and ported and tuned cylinder head which eventually passed through my workshop are all very much trademark features of such an engine, and this won't be the first where a complete engine or machine have not been present. Here, I discuss some of the tuni...
Triumph Mountain Cub T20M Test ride!
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.9 часов назад
A repeat of a Ride I took on this machine the day before, when my camera let me down. Taking no chances, I borrowed my Son's almost identical one, with the settings set the same as mine and with a new battery and a different memory card. whether I needed to do any of that, I don't know, but we got the entire ride captured on video, which is the main thing! The Mountain Cub ran and performed ver...
Triumph Mountain Cub T20M first attempt to start with Boyer Powerbox and no battery.
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.14 часов назад
Here is my first attempt to start this machine without a battery fitted, it being pretty vital that this machine can run without one, due to space limitations with the 'D' shaped air filter fitted. Back in the day, these machines were supposed to be able to run without a battery on the not very successful Energy Transfer ignition systems they were equipped with, but here, I have set this one up...
Triumph Trident - 'The President' gets new pipes! Also a start up on points with no battery.

Well, not new pipes exactly, more like a set of silencers, or 'Rayguns' which were just better than the ones that I had on my machine since about 1983, when I sometimes referred to it as the 'President Raygun'! Also shown, is this machine's ability - when I switch the ignition on properly at least - to start with no battery on its original Concentric carbs, wiring and three sets of points. Thes...
Simple ways of adapting hardware shop tools and engine pushrods for cylinder head porting duties.
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.21 час назад
I know long reach deburring tools can occasionally be found, but I find it is much easier to get hold of the shorter ones, although they have limited reach for cylinder head porting work, as do the abrasive flap wheels which are also very useful. Here, I show the simple methods I use to extend them so they can reach further into those tricky areas deep inside the ports of cylinder heads.
A small electric cooker beats the gas torch for valve guide and bearing removal in the workshop!
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.21 час назад
I only recently tried using this small oven instead of the propane torch for heating up cylinder heads, crankcases etc to facilitate removal and replacement of valve guides, bearings etc and it has proved to be quite a revelation, so I thought it might be of interest to others, as I had never expected it to out do the gas torch for such work.

Просмотров 4,1 тыс.День назад
Not really a rant at all, but I thought I would add this to them. Here, I discuss several separate incidents and failures I have endured on my 1970 BSA Thunderbolt 650 and consider whether they make my machine a 'Bad Bike'. Perhaps not everyone will agree with my conclusion, let's wait and see ...

Triumph Mountain Cub T20M Runs better with timing and carb attended to.
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.14 дней назад
After marking up to check the ignition timing by strobe, I found it to be way over advanced and adjusted it accordingly. I also attended to the carburettor, finding a too small pilot jet in there, as well as a blocked pilot bleed passageway and no rubber o ring in the carburettor flange face. Putting all of these right resulted in the improved running seen here.

The only other thing "i feel " in my years of playing with these things is the high loading of the valve guides Those valves, the angle and thus the loading were the "thoughts of those times " that's the only thing I would change on mine a "flatter piston " and those valve guides I adjusted the chain on my daily driver after 600km might even look at the points one day ,,,, the reliability of these things is bordering on boredom levels !

Which do you consider being the most durable option for upgrading A65 conrods Paul, please? Forged steel as supplied by Carillo and Hepolite or those machined form 7 series alloy as supplied by SRM and others?

    • @paulhenshaw4514
      @paulhenshaw4514 4 часа назад

I suppose Carillos ought to be the ultimate, but any new, quality conrods should give peace of mind over some originals, which may have had a hard life.

G'day Paul, l wonder 🤔 if they are making a fish ladder to aid upstream travel for the 🐟, hope it doesn't restrict the flow when in flood as this could change the displacement on normal flood plains, causing unusual flood patterns, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.

Hopefully straightforward, but all the fancy mods make it far from routine. What is it used for? Vintage road race sidecars spring to mind, as do flat track bikes. I know that some flat track racing was done at both King's Lynn and Scunthorpe speedways. Our young 'un broke an ankle whilst in the lead at Scunthorpe a few years back.

All the fish that live in the sea and spawn in freshwater are under pressure (lampreys included) from the effects of climate change (among other man-made problems). That includes sewin of course, for which the Towy and its side streams are famous. I wonder if the smaller river has been widened and/or dredged in your lifetime Paul? Dredging has done terrible damage to rivers and fish habitat right across the UK in the past (still going on in some places) and it has caused increased flooding risk in some places too, guttering the water away instead of allowing it to be held back a bit. Hopefully they’ll get rid of that small weir while they’re doing the ‘rocks in the river’ thing. OK, on with the A65 now? Watching with interest. Les
